Musical FeaturesHarmonically and melodically, these are very contemporary pieces. The pitch system is atonal for all etudes. As is normal for Stout pieces, the duration of each measure changes depending on the note values in that measure.
Notation is clear.
The style is very contemporary, very late 20th century.
Musically, each etude is different than one other. #8 is dedicated to Keiko Abe.
Technical FeaturesEtude #6. – Rolls, sustained sounds, voice leading. Intervals up to a 10th.

Etude #7. - (Slides): As the title suggests, this etude features glissandi prominently.

Etude #8. - Dedicated to Keiko Abe: This piece has a similar sound and feel to the style of composition of Keiko Abe.

Etude #9. - This piece uses techniques, and stickings that are similar to Stout’s Two Mexican Dances and Astral Dance

Etude #10. - Alla Marcia-risoluto. An interesting take on a march.
