Paul SanGregory

Paul SanGregory 's compositions and arrangements have been performed extensively in Taiwan and the United States as well as in Europe, South Africa, Thailand and Canada. His compositional output ranges from simple songs and arrangements to contemporary concert music, including works for voice, choir, large and small chamber ensembles, orchestra, band and concertos. Prizes and awards include an Indiana University Fellowship for composition, the Toledo Area young Composers' Choral Composition Competition, the Wilmer Hayden Welsh Composition Competition, many ASCAP Plus Awards, and finalist in the ASCAP Grants to Young Composers awards. Ensembles and organizations that have commissioned him include The Ensemble Virtuosi (Taichung, Taiwan), The Pro Arte Trio (Taipei, Taiwan), Melothesia (Kaohsiung, Taiwan), Succession Percussion Ensemble (Kaohsiung, Taiwan), and The Taitung Philharmonic Society (Taitung, Taiwan), as well as The University of Indianapolis, The University of Toledo, National Kaohsiung Normal University, National Taipei Teachers College and National Pingtung University of Education. Recordings of his works are available on CDs produced by Early Music Society Taiwan, Leyerle Publications and Capstone Records.

In the United States, Mr. SanGregory has served on the music composition and theory faculties at the University of Indianapolis and the University of Toledo, and has since taught at National Kaohsiung Normal University and National Sun Yatsen University in Taiwan. Currently, he lives in Kaohsiung, Taiwan and teaches music theory and composition at National Pingtung University of Education. He also serves as a composer in residence for the Succession Percussion Ensemble and, before accepting a full-time position at NPUE, was known for his work as coach, conductor and composer for the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble at National Kaohsiung Normal University.

Mr. SanGregory earned his Doctor of Music degree in composition from Indiana University where he studied composition with Claude Baker, Frederick Fox, and Eugene O'Brien. He has also studied composition with Mark Phillips and David Jex and studied piano with Michel Block, Richard Syracuse, Thomas Hecht, and Anthony Pattin.
