 Marco Schirripa

Marco Schirripa is an active percussionist, composer, educator, and writer.  He holds Bachelor’s degrees in Percussion Performance and Music Theory from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY, where he studied percussion with Gordon Stout and Conrad Alexander, and is currently a Percussion Master’s student at Indiana University, where he studies with Kevin Bobo and John Tafoya.

Throughout his early career, Marco has performed solo and ensemble music on both national and international stages including the Navy Saxophone Symposium and Zeltsman Marimba Festival.  In 2011 he was selected to perform in the PAS 50th Anniversary Marimba Orchestra and the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Indianapolis, IN.  That same year, Marco took first place in the PAS Marching Percussion Festival Solo Marimba Competition.  He has also been involved in numerous other performance competitions, including a first place finish in the 2010 Ithaca College Concerto Competition, and fourth place in the 2012 PAS International Marimba Competition.

Marco’s compositions have been performed in various locations throughout the United States and he has been active in the commissioning and/or premiering of solo and chamber works by composers as diverse as Thomas Murphy, Nathaniel Dominy, and Gordon Stout. He is a member of the Percussive Arts Society, Pi Kappa Lambda music honor society, and the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP).
